Standup Jet Ski (closed course) racing has been around for over 40 years with the first twin-cylinder 2-stroke 440 released by Kawasaki in 1972. Yamaha joined the scene in 1990 with its 650 ‘Square nose’. Today the 2-stroke is no longer being manufactured but racing continues with the 701 Yamaha Superjet and the 800 Kawasaki SXR in the ‘Lites’ class category favoured by Juniors and Amateur racers. New 4-stroke multi-cylinder standups are now available from Kawasaki (SXR1500) and Yamaha (1050 Superjet) that are redefining standup ski performance and creating new classes for racing from Amateur to Pro.
